AROUND INDIAN PENINSULA’ SAILING EXPEDITION 2018 BY INDIAN ARMY

Created sailing record of 3850NM around Indian Peninsula in a Yacht

Indian Army ‘Around Indian Peninsula’ Sailing Expedition-2018 from Haldia to Porbandar under the Burgee of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Sailing Association was Flagged in by Lieutenant General KK Aggarwal SM VSM, DG EME and Senior Col Commandent Corps of EME on 01 Dec 2018 at Porbandar. The expedition which commemorates the Platinum Jubilee of Corps of EME was casted off from Haldia on 21 Oct 2018, the expedition has created a record by sailing approx 3850 NM around Indian Peninsula in a Yacht.

The team comprised of 53 sailors (27 Offrs incl 05 Lady Offrs, 06 JCOs & 20 ORs), Major Alok Yadav being the team leader. The members were trained on Basic Sailing, Navigation, Survival at Sea, First Aid, Radio Communication and various rescue drills at Army Adventure Nodal Centre for sailing at HBTC, Marve. The training onboard the Yacht was conducted at Chennai.

The Army has always been at the forefront of adventure activities in the country and always provided ideas, infrastructure, training and most importantly men, with nerves of steel and strong will to overcome difficult challenges. The expedition was an attempt towards the same, besides raising awareness about saving the aquatic life by keeping the oceans pollution free and also motivating youth to opt armed forces as career.

Expedition had 8 ports of call during its journey from Haldia to Porbandar, namely Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, Karikal, Trivandrum, Kochhi, Mangalore, Goa and Mumbai.
