A new initiative is being started by Vadodara Central Jail as part of prisoner reform and welfare. Recently, irrigated farming was started to save water and improve the land with the help of inmates by facilitating drip irrigation in the prison-owned space at the back of the jail which is used for farming.

Now a new initiative is introduced in the form of organic farming inside the jail. It may be recalled that this is a step in line with the Government of Gujarat’s policy of promoting organic farming.

Giving information about this, Jail Superintendent Baldevsinh Vaghela said, a large amount of dry organic biological waste is collected in the Jail. Compost manure i.e. organic manure is being made by mixing manure in it. Thus, waste disposal has become easier and compost is being made from waste.

In addition to this waste, a mixture of cow urine, jaggery, dung and flour is used to make liquid organic manure which will be nutritious to the crop. Thus, with this initiative the farming inside the has become pure and free from insecticides. The prison’s initiative will also help protect the environment.
