The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and Starscapes, an astro-tourism company, have partnered to launch Nakshatra Sabha, an initiative designed to offer a comprehensive Astro Tourism experience.

This initiative is not just about observing the stars but aims to immerse participants in various activities such as stargazing, special solar observations, astrophotography contests, and camping under the stars.

The goal is to create an engaging platform that brings together astronomy enthusiasts, adventurers, and travellers to marvel at the wonders of the cosmos while enjoying the natural beauty of Uttarakhand.

The Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Uttarakhand has expressed excitement about the project, recognising the state's potential to emerge as a premier destination for astronomy-focused travel.

Uttarakhand's unique combination of abundant forest cover, nature-based tourism, easy access to major cities, and a well-established hospitality sector, including homestays, makes it an ideal location for attracting astro tourists from around the world.

Nakshatra Sabha is set to commence in early June at George Everest in Mussoorie and will continue until mid-2025, featuring a series of immersive events at various locations across Uttarakhand.

These events will not only provide opportunities for stargazing but will also explore potential night sky sites in districts like Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Chamoli.

Accompanying these activities will be seminars and webinars led by experts in the field, enhancing the educational aspect of the initiative.

In addition to offering professional training and skill development opportunities for local residents interested in astronomy and tourism, Nakshatra Sabha aims to boost local economies and advocate for the preservation of night skies.

By fostering a community of ambassadors dedicated to dark sky conservation throughout Uttarakhand, the initiative aims to implement a region-wide dark sky preservation policy over the coming year, ensuring the sustainability of astro-tourism in the region.
