A well-known name in the global fashion industry, Sabyasachi Mukherjee has proved his worth yet again — by becoming the first Indian fashion designer to walk the coveted Met Gala carpet.

Dressed in an “embroidered cotton duster coat from the Sabyasachi Resort 2024 collection”, the designer styled his fuss-free look with “tourmalines, pearls, emeralds, and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewellery,” as shared on his Instagram page.

The ace designer completed his look with tinted sunglasses and brown loafers footwear, keeping it uber stylish.

Previously, Natasha Poonawalla, the executive director of the Serum Institute of India, donned a Sabyasachi creation at the fashion extravaganza.

In 2022, Poonawalla brought together the design signatures of Sabyasachi and Maison Schiaparelli in an architectural gold hand-forged bustier styled with a sari along with a trailing train “embroidered with silk floss thread and embellished with bevel beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, sequins, and appliquéd printed velvet”.

Every year, the Met Gala is organised on the first Monday of May for the who’s who of the fashion and entertainment industries.

Curated by former Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the event is hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This year, the theme is The Garden of Time.
