AMMK chief T T V Dhinakaran on Thursday urged chief minister M K Stalin to give up plans to merge govt kallar reclamation schools with the school education department.

In a statement, Dhinakaran said the Tamil Nadu govt’s unilateral decision to merge the schools without eliciting the views of the organizations concerned was illegal.

Pointing to the reports of meeting of govt officials for merger of schools, Dhinakaran said the govt’s budget announcement made last year was put on hold following strong objections.

The denotified communities have demanded that the ongoing process of merger despite assurances given by the ministers concerned against such a move should be stalled.

The AMMK leader said the chief minister should give up plans for a merger that would take away the rights of the piramalai kallars, the backward community, and take necessary action to continue the kallar reclamation schools function under the of the BC and MBC welfare department.
