Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar revealed on Sunday that he has contributed money towards the purpose of construction of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya and made an appeal to his fans to do the same.
Taking to Twitter, the actor, in a video message to his fans, said people should contribute whatever sum they can for the purpose. “It is a matter of great happiness that the construction of our grand temple of Sri Rama has begun in Ayodhya. Now it is our turn to contribute. I have started, hope you will join together. Jai Siyaram,” the actor tweeted, along with the video.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu’s family, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan are among the first ones to contribute money for the purpose. President Kovind contributed over Rs 5 lakh as the nationwide drive to collect donations for the construction of Ram temple kicked off on Friday.
The biggest contribution of over Rs 1 crore came from Surendra Bahadur Singh, former MLA of Tezgaon in Baiswara district of Rae Bareli, who donated a cheque of Rs 1,11,11,111 to Champat Rai, VHP’s vice president and general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has mandated the VHP to collect funds for the temple’s construction.
According to reports, contributions were also made by governors and chief ministers across the country.
