Large companies create marvelous show rooms for the demonstration and sale of their products. Vadodara Central Jail seems to be taking a step towards joining the ranks. As a step in this direction, a show room of goods produced by the inmates of Vadodara Central Jail was inaugurated at the Prisoner Welfare Fund Patrol Station adjacent to the Danteshwar Open Jail premises. Dr. KLN Rao, Additional Director General of Police, State Jails and Correctional Administration inaugurated the facility.
At the same time he started the work for construction of a pump for the sale of CNG. He said the prison industry employs inmates as well as providing skills to them. The income from this employment remains useful for their families. He urged the citizens to encourage them and buy prison products.
Baldevsinh Vaghela, Superintendent, Central Jail, said that along with the sale of petrol, CNG has been introduced for new technology vehicles and the prison department plans to start selling it. As part of this, Additional Director General started the construction of the pump and it is proposed to start in the next 6 to 8 months.
He said the Vadodara Central Jail's industries like chemicals, weaving, furniture, printing and stationery have an annual turnover of about Rs 4.5 crore.
Deputy Jail Superintendent V.R. Patel said that at present this temporary sales center has been set up and there are plans to build a shed for it. Here you will find plain and engraved furniture, towels from the weaving industry, napkins, sheets, handkerchiefs, chessboard, various types of chemical baths, washing soaps, liquid soaps, oil soaps, cleaning products including phenyl and can be purchased. Mrs. Rao, prison officials and staff, prisoners were present on the occasion.
