Weather Shift in Rajasthan: Rain and Hailstorm Alert for 19 Districts After Temperature Soars to 40.6°C
Amid rising temperatures and heatwave conditions across Rajasthan, residents may soon get some relief as weather conditions are expected to change due to the activation of a Western Disturbance around March 14. According to the India Meteorological Department, a yellow alert for rain and hailstorms has been issued for 19 districts of the state on March 14, while two districts remain under a heatwave alert.
Meteorologists say the approaching weather system is likely to bring light rain, thunderstorms, dust storms and gusty winds, which could lead to a drop in temperature by around 2–3 degrees Celsius in several areas. The change in weather is expected to provide temporary relief from the intense heat that has gripped the state over the past few days.
On Tuesday, most parts of Rajasthan experienced clear skies and strong sunshine, leading to high daytime temperatures. Border districts such as Jaisalmer and Barmer recorded light to moderate heatwave conditions. Among major cities, Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.6°C, making it the hottest place in the state. Other cities also reported high temperatures, including Pilani at 39.2°C, Chittorgarh at 39°C, Churu at 38.7°C, Jodhpur at 38.6°C, and Jaisalmer at 38.5°C.
Meanwhile, cities like Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur also experienced temperatures ranging between 36°C and 37.9°C, reflecting the widespread heat across the state. The scorching heat forced many people to seek shade during the day, and roadside shopkeepers in the walled city areas of Jaipur were seen taking shelter under umbrellas to avoid the intense sunlight.
Providing details about the upcoming weather change, Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre Jaipur, said that a Western Disturbance will become active over North India on March 14, and its effects will likely be felt across parts of Rajasthan on March 14 and 15. Due to this system, several regions may witness cloudy skies, light rain, dust storms and thunderstorm activity, which could temporarily ease the heatwave conditions.
However, meteorologists caution that the relief may be short-lived, as temperatures could rise again after the weather system weakens. Authorities have also advised farmers and residents to remain alert as hailstorms and gusty winds during this period could potentially affect standing crops and daily activities in some districts
