Indian Railways has directed railway zones to strictly enforce the rule of switching off mobile charging points in train coaches between 11 PM and 5 AM. The measure is aimed at improving passenger safety and reducing the risk of fire incidents caused by overheating batteries, faulty chargers or electronic devices. The rule was originally introduced in 2014 and reiterated in 2021. According to the latest directive, railway authorities have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the six-hour restriction.

Railway officials have also been instructed to train staff and conduct surprise inspections to ensure that charging points remain switched off during the designated hours. Passengers travelling overnight are advised to charge their mobile phones, laptops and other essential electronic devices before the restriction begins. The precaution is intended to minimise fire risks and ensure safer journeys for passengers travelling on Indian Railways.
