India ended its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on a strong note, winning nine medals on the final day, including five golds. The impressive finish helped India secure fourth place in the overall medal standings.
India’s final tally stood at 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The final-day gold medals came from men’s cricket, men’s hockey, wrestling, golf and archery. India’s men’s cricket team defeated Pakistan in the final to retain its Asian Games title, while the men’s hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 to successfully defend its gold medal.
The campaign also produced several historic achievements. Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games golf gold, while Kumkum Mohod created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win individual recurve archery gold. India also secured an Olympic qualification spot in men’s hockey for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
With 85 medals, India recorded its second-highest medal haul in Asian Games history, behind the 106 medals won at Hangzhou in 2023. Athletics was India’s biggest contributor with 24 medals, followed by shooting with 15, while archery led the gold-medal tally with five.
