Vadodara would be the first district in the entire country where 100% schools will have water harvesting facility. Industry will work closely with VMC for developing the city’s plan and Vadodara needs to market itself better. New Buildings will need to be differently abled friendly for getting the clearances.

These are some of the points comes out in the annual meeting of CII Central Gujarat Zone, Vadodara concluded on 26 February 2020. It was followed by a Conference on Ease of Living – The role of Industry in development of Vadodara. Over 200 CEOs / MDs / Chairman and other top management attended this session.

Various speakers shared their wisdom on this topic in the conference. Georg Sparschuh Chairman – CII Central Gujarat Zonal Council & President Schott Glass India Pvt. Though Vadodara is one of the best places to stay, yet it is termed boring and thus Vadodara needs to market itself better so more service sector comes in”.

Mukesh Puri IAS, Additional Chief Secretary Urban Development & Urban Housing Department and Chairman – GPCB, Government of Gujarat said “Gujarat has 5% population but in terms of country’s GDP, Gujarat contributes 7.7% and Vadodara plays a major role in this. It is industries who will have to work in a collaborative model with Government for increasing the ease of living. It is industries who will have to come together and help in identifying city’s changing needs and see how technology can be integrated.”

“Vadodara would be the first district in the entire country with 100% schools doing water harvesting, Vadodara needs aggressive greenery campaigns” claimed Shalini Agarwal, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate Vadodara. She also urges the citizens of Vadodara to keeping the city clean and recycling garbage in their regular lives as much as possible. Also in times of disasters, industries should extend the help to citizens, like when city is flooded, factories outside city limits who have canteens can supply food to affected areas and minimize the damage.

“Certain small changes like displaying the name and mobile number of the contractor who is digging the road, making city more accessible for differently abled by linking it to building permissions, etc will help the city to rise in the index” said Bhavik Khera Vice Chairman – CII Central Gujarat Zonal Council & Managing Director – SEE Linkages Pvt. Ltd. while addressing the gathering on the his perspective on ease of living.

Replying to Mr Khera, Nalin Upadhyay, IAS, Municipal Commissioner Vadodara said “VMC will soon ensure that building which are not differently abled friendly will not be given clearances. Also in future VMC will built a mobile application so citizen’s concerns can be tracked in real time. CII and VMC will institutionalize arrangements in a way that regular discussions happen between industries and local government”
