Zambian student commits suicide at Parul University

Once again Waghodia based Parul University is in limelight after a second year engineering student from Zambia studying there committed suicide on Saturday. The student also left behind a suicide note before taking the extreme step. Sources said he was in depression due to the studies.

The deceased Jite Sakala (22) residing at international hostel building of the varsity tied himself with the bedsheet to a ceiling fan in the common room of the international hostel. On seeing Sakala tied to the ceiling fan, other foreign students informed university authorities.The university officials then informed the police about the incident and they reached the spot.

The student left a suicide note but the police refused to share any details. Sources said that the student was suffering from depression due to the studies and took the extreme step. The police after taking the custody of the body sent it for postmortem and registered a case of accidental death. His parents as well as the Zambian embassy was informed by the police.

Several students from middle-eastern and African countries study in various courses at the university. Sometimes earlier there was clash between foreign and Indian students inside the University and police arrested many foreign students and sent them to jail. They were bailed out later. Now the foreign student suicide add another controversy related to the University.
