US midterms: Democrats keep the Senate after Nevada win
New Update

The Democratic party has managed to keep its control over the Senate after Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto trounced Republican Adam Laxalt in the tightly-fought Nevada seat, thereby delivering a breather for Joe Biden.

Democrats now have 50 Senate seats to Republicans' 49 seats.

The only seat left is Georgia, which will witness run-off elections next month.

However, even if Republicans keep Georgia, Democrats will keep the majority in the Senate as Vice President Kamala Harris would continue to cast the tie-breaking vote.

Retaining control over Senate will be a big boost for Joe Biden as he can now confirm his judicial nominees and even reject bills passed by the House.

The Republicans now control the House of Representatives with 211 seats against the Democrat's 202.

Democrats' control over the Senate also means that the GOP failed to make predicted gains. The wide expectation was that the party would storm the elections.
