Regional governor said that the cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed.

Reuters quoting the regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported at least three people were killed and dozens of residential buildings damaged in Russia's Belgorod in the blasts during the early hours of Sunday.

The governor said that at least 11 apartment buildings and 39 private residential houses got damaged in the blasts and five got completely destroyed.

At least four persons suffered injuries in the incident and they were rushed to hospital.

The Guardian quoting the governor reported that presumably, the air defence system worked and that could have caused the blast.

The city is the administrative centre of the Belgorod oblast region.
