Melania Trump, the former first lady of the United States, has established a non-fungible token (NFT) and blockchain technology enterprise, joining a growing number of celebrities who are giving digital artefacts to cash in on the recent craze for such assets.
According to Melania Trump's office, the first NFT, titled "Melania's Vision," is a watercolour by artist Marc-Antoine Coulon that "embodies Melania's azure blue eyes."
Between December 16 and December 31, it will be available for purchase.
An NFT is a digital asset that records the ownership status of digital items using blockchain technology. The blockchain acts as a public ledger, allowing anybody to check the legitimacy of the NFT.
Celebrities like Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi and Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt debuted their own NFT collection earlier this year.
A percentage of the proceeds from the Melania Trump NFTs, which will be released at regular intervals, will be used to help children who have aged out of the foster care system.
"Through this new technology-based platform, we will provide children computer science skills, including programming and software development, to thrive after they age out of the foster community," said Melania.
