In a horrific incident, a gunman opened fire on two television journalists while they were reporting on a murder near Orlando, Florida on Wednesday leaving one dead and the other wounded.

According to police officials the gunman also shot a 9-year-old girl and wounded her mother in a nearby home.

The wounded journalist and girl's mother are in a critical condition, said officials.

According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina the suspect was identified as Keith Melvin Moses (19). Shortly after the incident, he was arrested by the police from nearby the homicide scene.

The two journalists a reporter and a photographer of Spectrum News 13 were reporting the murder of a woman in the area that morning when the suspect returned and assaulted them.

Moses, while addressing a press conference, said that the suspect was armed when he was arrested.

He was arrested as a suspect in both the assaults and was formally charged in the killings, Mina said.

The sheriff added that the journalists were reporting on the shooting by around 11: 00 local time during the day where a woman in her 20s was shot dead inside a car. 

After attacking the journalists, the suspect shot the girl and the mother nearby, he added.

When taken to custody he was armed and also he has a lengthy criminal record that included arrests on charges of firearms offenses aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and grand theft.

However, the motive of the murder is unknown.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre posted a message of condolences on Twitter.
