A blast occurred in the PD-1 region in the southern province of Kandahar city near Imam Bargah mosque on Friday, sources said. Casualties are feared.

According to the officials, the explosion occurred at a mosque in Kandahar city's police district one (PD1). Locals told TOLOnews that the explosion occurred at a mosque belonging to the Shia community.

The explosion occurred while the Friday prayers were going on. Witnesses said the number of casualties would be high.

No official report has been issued on the exact number of casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Earlier on October 8, at least 100 people were killed and wounded in a mosque explosion in northern Afghanistan. The blast targeted Shia Muslims. The attack was suspected to have been carried out by a suicide bomber.
