Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has extended her warm greetings to the people of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Republic Day. In her letter to Prime Minister Modi, she said that 2021 was a historic year of Bangladesh-India friendship marked by celebrations of epochal events and engagements at the highest level.

She recalled the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Bangladesh in March last year to celebrate the golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh, birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Hasina said that this further consolidated the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.

Recalling with gratitude India's support during the liberation war of 1971, Prime Minister Hasina said that it set the foundation of the unique relationship between Bangladesh and India. The joint celebration of 'Moitri Dibosh' across the globe held 0n 6th December when India recognised Bangladesh as an independent state in 1971 projected this special relationship, said Prime Minister Hasina.

Highlighting the unique ties of close friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and India, Sheikh Hasina said that it has flourished and grown from strength to strength in recent years. Many new frontiers of cooperation alongside all traditional areas have been identified, said Prime Minister Hasina. She said Bangladesh looks forward to working together with India in the next fifty years and beyond towards the realisation of the shared vision of building a peaceful and prosperous region.
