Sensitize them to adopt safe sea practices

A Workshop on ‘Safer Sea and Maritime Search & Rescue for Fishermen’ was conducted by Indian Coast Guard at Porbandar. The purpose of organizing this workshop was to sensitize the fishing community to adopt safe practices at sea.

During the workshop fishermen were sensitized to contact nearest Coast Guard Station / Headquarter in case of any distress at sea. They were also advised to take preventive measures like carriage of life saving equipment, communication equipment, ID Cards and fitment of lights.

District Collector and officials from Porbandar Administration, representatives of fishermen community / Sailing Vessel Association / Fishermen Association, Indian National Centre for Information Services, Gujarat Maritime Board, Indian Space Research Organization etc. participated in the workshop. The speakers from various fields of maritime arena expressed their views.

Indian Coast Guard is the nodal agency for maritime search and rescue in the maritime zones of India. Indian Coast Guard has established Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Maritime Rescue SBB Centre (MRSC) at various locations to coordinate SAR efforts, Porbandar being one of them.
