The latest edition of Western Railway’s popular in-house magazine ‘Rail Darpan’,
was released by General Manager Alok Kansal alongwith Tanuja Kansal, President of Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (WRWWO) and Alok Kumar – Additional General Manger at a function at Railway Officer’s Club at Budhwar Park, Mumbai.

The magazine has earned the distinction of winning the prestigious National Award of India’s best inhouse magazine from the hands of The President of India, instituted by the Rajbhasha Directorate of Home Ministry of Government of India.

On releasing the latest edition Kansal appreciated the overall efforts of the editorial team of ‘Rail Darpan’ and expressed his pleasure that this popular magazine has not only won many prestigious awards for its creative excellence but also has provided an excellent platform for the literary talents of Western Railway to express and share their views and creations. Various Principal Head of Departments, Office bearers of Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization as well as several senior railway officers were also present on this occasion.

Speaking on this occasion, Sumit Thakur – Chief Editor of Rail Darpan, briefed about the new issue to the General Manager & enlightened that this is the 30th issue of the magazine. All efforts have been made to make this new issue better, interesting, worth reading and attractive. He further stated that the new issue showcases the major activities undertaken during the COVID-19 induced lockdown and how Western Railway utilized this situation by turning the Crisis into an Opportunity. The cover page of the new issue is based on the tourism concept and is adorned with attractive and mesmerizing photos of the major tourist destinations of Western Railway.

Thakur said that Western Railway has earned a significant achievement for its creative excellence by winning a total of seven prestigious national level awards from the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). Out of these seven awards, three awards were bagged by Rail Darpan while the other three awards were awarded to W. Rly’s Exhibition Collateral, Table Calendar and Corporate Film and the last one was most coveted trophy of “Champion of the Champions” which was awarded for overall creative excellence.

The ABCI National Awards are given every year for outstanding performance in the field of professional communication and it is a matter of great pride that ‘Rail Darpan’ has won more than 55 prestigious National Awards in the last 19 years for their creative excellence. Similarly, in continuation to the award-winning spree ‘Rail Darpan’ has also bagged the prestigious award by the well-known literary and cultural organization ‘Ashirwad’ for the best house magazine.

This issue also encompasses the various noteworthy welfare activities undertaken by Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization under the leadership of President Tanuja Kansal. This edition also has an elaborate account of various major activities including the inauguration of new passenger amenities as well as facilities commenced for railway employees in the last few months have been published in ‘Current Activities’, while a special poem titled ‘Gandhiji and Rail Ka Rishta’, composed and dedicated to the Father of the Nation also has found a special place in this issue, as a tribute to commemorate the historic year of 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The new issue of Rail Darpan also incorporates regular features of interesting stories, satire, health discussion, story-poem, regular columns like book review, etc. Apart from these, the series of ‘My Marathi’ dedicated to regional language Marathi is also continued. The e-edition of this magazine is also available on the official website of W.Rly – www.wr.indianrailways.gov.in. A Cultural programme was also organized on the occasion of the releasing ceremony.
