Keeping in pace with Indian Railways efforts of running Oxygen Express trains to various states across the country, Western Railway has run 25 Oxygen Expresses carrying Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to various destinations. This effort is to strengthen the united fight against COVID-19 and for bringing relief to the COVID patients and their families.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, till now Western Railway has run 25 Oxygen Express trains and transported approx. 2297 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO). These trains are given top priority and are run with all safety measures, being a cryogenic cargo. As a result, these trains are being run at an average speed of about 55 kmph by providing a through corridor, so that they could reach the destination within the shortest possible time.

Out of the 25 Oxygen Express trains, 23 were Oxygen Tanker trains (Ro – Ro services) consisting of 112 tankers while the other two were Oxygen Containers (8 nos.) which carried 133 tonnes of LMO. It has provided relief to the states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The loco pilots of Western Railway who manned these trains and staff have taken pride to undertake this call of duty in the service of the nation in such trying times.

Thakur further stated that Western Railway ran 25th Oxygen Express train for Delhi on 14th May, 2021. It departed from Hapa in Gujarat for Delhi Cantt. at 01.25 hrs consisting of 5 tankers which contained 89.33 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen and reaching Delhi Cantt. the same day at around 22.00 hrs, covering a distance of 1105 km. These Tankers have been provided by M/s Reliance Industries, Jamnagar.

With Oxygen Express, Railways is ensuring that the medical oxygen is made available to COVID-19 patients, thus bringing respite to the patients who are in dire need of oxygen. Till 13th May 2021, Indian Railways has delivered nearly 7115 MT of LMO in more than 444 tankers to various states across the country.

407 MT of LMO has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 1960 MT in UP, 361 MT in MP, 1135 MT in Haryana, 188 MT in Telangana, 72 MT in Rajasthan, 120 MT in Karnataka and more than 2748 MT in Delhi. It is Indian Railways endeavour to deliver as much LMO as possible in the shortest time possible to the requesting states.
