Respite for everyone as rains stopped since morning

Following the heavy rains, Vishwamitri river passing through Vadodara city has once again been nearing danger mark. However, the administration and people are relieved as rains have stopped since morning on Monday.

Alert have been issued to people living near the river as the level reached 21 foot in the morning when water was released from the Ajwa lake at 11 pm.

It is to be mentioned that the level of Vishwamitri river will not exceed 23 to 24 feet as water is discharged from Ajwa Sarovar into the river in a planned manner by Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan. As a result, the flood crisis will be averted from the city. However people of the societies living nearby are need to be careful.

Parth Brahmbhatt, chief fire officer of the fire brigade said, that as per the rules water is stored up to 212.50 foot above the surface of the lake on August 31. After that water is not stored in the lake. At 10 a.m., the surface of the lake was 212.45 feet and on the other hand, the level of Pratap Sarovar adjoining Ajwa Sarovar is 227.90 feet. The water of Pratap Sarovar will be taken up to 212.50 foot in Ajwa Sarovar and rest will come into the Vishwamitri river.

He further said, that 5620 cusecs of water was released from Ajwa Sarovar into Vishwamitri at night. As a result, the level of Vishwamitri will be 23 to 24 foot by noon, which is not a concern for the people of Vadodara.

However, people living along the river have been instructed not to go near the river and to remain vigilant. After the leve of Ajwa Sarovar reaches 212.50 foot, the water of Pratap Sarovar will come to Vishwamitri in phase wise manner.

It is to be mentioned that in case of rains today in the catchment area of ​​Ajwa Sarovar, the situation of Vishwamitri river may worsen. However, the rains are likely to take a break except for scattered showers with clouds remaining open. The system has been kept on alert to deal with any situation.
