Will give memorandum to district collector on Monday demanding strict action against the illegal clay excavation

Villagers on Sunday staged a huge protest against the large-scale excavations being carried out by the sub contractors near Angadh village near Vadodara for the six-lane project between Mumbai and Delhi.

The contract is given to L&T company. They stopped clay mining operations and will give a memorandum to the district collector on Monday demanding strict action against the illegal clay excavation.

L&T has been awarded the contract for excavation of six lanes between Mumbai and Delhi. The work is being done by the sub-contractors of the company. Congress leader and former BJP MLA Upendrasinh Gohil, Congress councilor Ami Rawat of Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan and Narendra Rawat reached the site near Angadh village along with large number of villagers.

After getting all the details from the site, the leaders alleged that more clay had been mined than the contract had been awarded to the company and crores of rupees in royalties had been stolen.

Ami Rawat, councilor of Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan, said that according to information received from the villagers, the L&T company has been allowed to excavate up to five hectares in Revenue Survey No. 116. But up to 6 meters has been excavated by the contractors and four times the soil has been mined by digging 20 meters deep. She also alleged that a large amount of royalty had been stolen by the contractor.

She also alleged that the clay was mined in the belt from Fajalpur to Jaspur village. Even though the lease has been completed, crores of rupees of revenue have been stolen by the contractors by digging a large amount of soil.

Congress leader and former BJP MLA Upendrasinh Gohil said the L&T company has been awarded the contract for clay mining. But the soil has been excavated by the company’s contractors in violation of all policy rules and about Rs 5 crore in royalties were allegedly stolen. If strict action is not taken against the company, they will inevitably have to resort to agitation. They are also ready to go to jail.

Congress leader Narendra Rawat said, they are not against the six lanes being built between Mumbai and Delhi, but opposed if the soil is excavated at the expense of the environment and the villagers. Soil excavation has been done by the contractor of L&T company violating all the rules and their fight is against it.

On Monday, they will hand over the application form to the district collector along with the villagers demand to take legal action against the contractor who carried out the illegal excavation.

They will also demand that the royalty be recovered after surveying the area. If no action is taken even after the memorandum they will not hesitate to give a legal fight. Currently clay excavation operations have been stopped and the work will not be allowed to start until action is taken against the contractors.
