The Special cleanliness drive “Swachchta Hi Sewa” Pakhwada was observed from 16th September, 2019 to 30th September, 2019 over Indian Railways with a view to ensure visible and tangible improvement in cleanliness at all its premises like stations, trains, offices, colonies, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals. Special emphasis is given to eradicate the use of plastics in railway premises during the drive.

The drive is conducted to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Vadodara division also runs the drive to make it plastic free by engaging railway employees, NGO’s, social organisations, charitable trust, schools and many other institutions.

With new theme every day the division saw participation of around 56800 people spreading the message of Swachhta and make the division a plastic free one. Nearly 3221 kilos of plastic waste was collected and ten thousand kilos of waste was cleaned. 160 cases was registered against people spreading the waste and fine of 27600 was collected from them during the drive.

During the Pakhwada cleanliness drives, awareness about making the areas clean, Shramdan was done to make the stations under the division to reclaim their original form. During the Pakhwada communication related measures were also adopted to spread awareness among rail users.

Ministry of Railways has directed all units of Railways to ban single use plastics of thickness less than 50 microns from October 02, 2019. Instructions for single use plastic ban have been issued to vendors of all stations and trains under the division.

This Gandhi Jayanti will be celebrated as Community Service Day and various programs will also be organized in the mandal.
