Vadodara railway turned 15 coaches into isolation ward for Corona patients

In Vadodara, the Railway Department has turned 15 coaches into special isolation ward on wheels to treat the Corona patients. In addition Corona treatment facility has also raised in the newly constructed bullet train hostel and specialist treatment facility at Railway’s Vadodara Hospital to support health department to treat the Coronavirus patients.

Dr Vinod Rao, Secretary of Education, and OSD to Vadodara for Corona crisis inspected all these facilities and discussed with the Railway officials about how to use it for the patients in time of need. Municipal Commissioner Nalinbhai Upadhyay and senior Railway officials were present at the time of this visit and inspection.

The railway has transformed 15 bogies into a hospital like facility and can accommodate 8 patients along with one doctor and one health worker. The mechanical department has outlined to prepare 38 such coaches. Currently the isolation coaches are kept at Platform 6 of Vadodara Railway Station and patients can be easily transported if necessary.

Dr. Vinod Rao thanked the railway department for its planning during the ongoing Corona crisis in Vadodara. He said the state government has undertaken the comprehensive plan of test and treatment, isolation in Vadodara for the Corona patients.

As a part of this, Gotri GMERS has started a 250 beds special hospital with advanced treatment facilities which can be expanded to 500 beds if needed. Besides, 200 bed isolation facilities are also planned in the nearby Workers State Insurance Scheme hospital.

The Western Railway’s Vadodara division has organized a 300-bed isolation ward in the newly constructed bullet train hostel in collaboration with the High Speed Railway Network. Besides, a special treatment facility has been established with 50 beds, including an 8-bed ICU at the Railway Hospital at Pratapnagar.
