Prepared various items including 20,000 masks and 59,000 soaps

The biggest problem in lock down was the closure of businesses, but inmates of Vadodara Central Jail have been lucky in this regard. The jail authorities conducts a variety of productive activities under prisoner welfare and rehabilitation which enables the inmates to learn new skills and abilities. It gives them the remuneration as well as help them to return back to society as a skillful person.

Even in the lockdown, productive activities were continued in the Central Jail as per convenience and following the rules of social distance. The inmates attached to tailor work department, soap and chemical department, worked hard and also earned money.

Jail superintendent Baldev Singh Vaghela said, ten inmates of the tailor's department made 20,000 masks in the lock-down and were provided to all the inmates, officers and employees as well as other offices. In the same time 10 other inmates produced carbolic soap, liquid handwash, neem soap and phenyl. They produced 59 thousand soaps, 6250 liters of phenyl, 2100 liters of liquid hand wash during the Lockdown and celebrate their hard work.

This material has been provided to all other jails in the state as required. Frequent hand washing with soap and regular cleaning of the living space with phenyl is an important precautionary measure against Coronavirus. In view of that the inmates of Vadodara central jail gives their important contribution in preparing these items and get remuneration for their hard work.

Various precautionary measures have been taken to prevent Coronavirus. Vaghela said a sanitizing tunnel constructed at the entrance of the jail, New inmates are first tested for Corona and allowed inside if they are tested negative. Care is taken to keep such inmates first inside the quarantine ward.

In order to increase the immunity of the prisoners, Ayurvedic juice are given to them prepared by the prisoners themselves. They have been given homeopathic herbs, Vitamin C tablets and lemon juice. At the entrance of the jail, rush room, telephone booth, canteen, bakery, press, hospital all are placed with liquid handwash. Regular cleaning of all the wards, administrative building, jail campus is cleaned regularly and sodium hypochloride sprayed all over the areas. Soaps are given to all inmates as a a precautionary measure of safety against the virus.
