The crime branch has cracked down on two bookies who were betting online on a IPL cricket match in Amin Nagar at Chhani village. Both the bookies were betting on a match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

City Crime Branch PI A.B. Jadeja had received information that Laxman Patel, a house owner of house No. 102 in Amin Nagar at Chhani village is involved in online betting on the IPL match. On basis of that PSI R.K. Torani along with Salimbhai, Ganubhai, Noyalbhai, Vijaybhai of the staff went there and carried out a raid at the place.

They caught Laxman Ambalal Patel and Hardik Bhupendrabhai Patel for gambling online. Police seized Rs 50,690 worth items from the gamblers, including three mobile phones, TV, set-top box and Rs 19,590 in cash. They lodged a complaint against them at the Chhani police station and handed them over to the police.

While interrogating Laxman Patel and Hardik Patel, who were arrested by the crime branch, the name of one Iqbal Italy from Padra was revealed. However the crime branch not find him at the spot and declared him wanted.

On the other hand, the Chhani police have registered a case against the gamblers for violation of the Gambling Act. In addition, as per the guideline of Covid-19, the process is on for Corona test of the accused.

It is worth mentioning that cricket betting starts with IPL season this year. The gamblers are involved in online betting but the police also set a trap to caught such accused. The arrest in Chhani village shocked everyone in the society.
