Two young girls from Tavara village who had gone to wash clothes in the Narmada canal passing nearby drowned and later died. A farm laborer living near the canal pulled out both but they died after being in the water for about two hours.
As per available details both girls living in Tavara village of Waghodia taluka are friends and every day they used to go to the Narmada Canal passing by the village to wash clothes.
On Tuesday also they went to wash clothes but began drowning in the rushing water of the canal. The girls screamed for help but since no one was near the canal and came to their aid.
As per police sources a farm laborer lives around 1000 foot from the spot saw the girls floating on the water. He jumped into the canal and pulled out both but they could not survive as they were in the water for two hours. Rita was able to swim but she could not save her friend and even herself.
Ratilal Kanchanbhai, who took out the bodies of the two girls, informed the people of Tavara village who rushed to the spot immediately along with the family members of both the girls. Police also rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Waghodia Government Hospital for postmortem.
A pall of gloom spread in the village over the incident. Waghodia police has registered a case of accidental death and began investigation in the matter.
