Three dilapidated buildings, including a 100-year-old building, caved in following heavy rains in the last 24 hours. The incident, which took place late at night and early in the morning, left three persons stuck under the debris.

Notably, notices were issued to homeowners by the corporation for demolishing two houses, including a 100-year-old building.

More than 2 inches of rain fell in Vadodara during the late night. The rains, accompanied by strong winds, led to the demolition of years-old dilapidated buildings. Warning notices were issued to homeowners from time to time by the corporation, but the landlords did not took it seriously and put their lives and property in danger.

Late at night, a dilapidated building collapsed in Kuberbhai Chandni Pol in Mandvi Ghadiyali Pol. The building has been closed for the past four years. No casualties were reported in the incident.

However, the corporation issued warning notice to the landlord to ensure that the building was dilapidated and not put anyone’s life in danger. But the lanlord don’t took it seriously and the building caved in late at night due to heavy rains.

In addition, there are Seven such 100-year-old houses in the plot of Navidharati Rana Punch in Bardanwala Street near Jubilee Bagh. Among them, a part of Kishorebhai Rana’s (58) house collapsed and was crushed in the incident which took place in the early morning.

Locals rushed to the spot as part of the building collapsed. The fire brigade was informed about the incident and the troops rushed to the spot and Kishorebhai Rana was taken out from the debris and sent to Sayaji Hospital.

Corporation issued notices for these 100-year-old seven houses on 29-6-2020 to repair the houses. Earlier also noticed were also but the houses were not intimidated and the incident happened.

With this, a part of the years old building on Kalupur Naka collapsed today. Locals rushed to the spot as the building collapsed and 2 members of the family who were crushed under the debris were evacuated. Luckily a major tragedy was averted. A notice was issued by the corporation to make the dilapidated building fearless so that it would not endanger anyone. But, the notice by the landlord was not heeded.

Notably, notices are issued by the corporation to depreciate dilapidated properties. But, no further action is taken after giving notice. As a result, people’s lives are in danger when old properties caved in. However, the corporation’s notices are not taken seriously even by property owners and they endanger themselves as well as those around them.
