Users of WhatsApp will soon be able to give and receive money using cryptocurrencies within chats. In the United States, the messaging app is testing the new payment function with a small group of users. Six weeks ago, the feature was rolled out to a select group of users. WhatsApp has partnered with Novi, a digital wallet software, to deliver the payments capability to users in the United States. Pax Dollars (USDP), a US-dollar pegged cryptocurrency developed by Paxos Trust Money, will be used to make payments.
Novi CEO Stephane Kraisel tweeted that customers in the United States will be able to send and receive money fast and securely within WhatsApp chats using the new Novi payments function. " There's a new way to try the digital wallet. Starting today, a limited number of people in the US will be able to send and receive money using Novi on WhatsApp, making sending money to family and friends as easy as sending a message,"Kraisel tweeted.
Novi was tested six weeks ago, according to Kraisel. The business was able to figure out which feature was most significant to the users."We're still very early in the Novi pilot journey, so we made the decision to test this new entry point in one country to start and will look to extend it once we've heard from people what they think of this new experience," he said. Kraisel also ensured that using Novi on Whatsapp would not impact their privacy settings as the chats would remain end-to-end encrypted.
Here's how to use Novi's payment services on WhatsApp to send money.
— Open the chat of a contact you wish to give money to on WhatsApp — If you're using an Android device, tap the attach icon in the dialogue window.
— Tap the + icon in the chat window if you're using an iPhone.
— Select Payments from the drop-down menu — After you've chosen a payment method, enter the amount you want to send.
WhatsApp will not charge you any money for the transactions, according to Novi. There is no limit to the number of times you can send money. WhatsApp Payments is presently available in India and Brazil, among other countries. The United States has become the third country to receive the payment capability. Users in the United States can also send money in cryptocurrency. Brazil and India do not currently have this feature.
