New Update

Meta’s WhatsApp is currently testing a new UI for its status menu that emphasizes both stories and channels and also allows users to preview stories without actually opening them.

The company is currently testing the new interface on Android smartphones, and we can expect to see a similar update for iPhones in the coming days.

The new updated status bar is currently available on the beta version of WhatsApp (v2.24.4.23).

According to WABetaInfo, this is still an experimental feature and should help users easily distinguish between stories and channels.

The status now appears in a rectangular format and gives a quick preview of the content for users, and the new UI also allows them to subscribe or access a specific channel quickly.

WhatsApp is known for playing around with the UI; however, it will only introduce the new interface if it is fit to use for the regular audience or to make space for a new feature.

The introduction of channels on the status bar made the UI a bit cluttered, where one has to hide the seen stories to get quick access to the channels, and with the upcoming change, the company is likely to fix the same and offer a more modernized status menu, which makes it easy to access both stories and channels.

WhatsApp gives access to the beta version for both Android and iPhones via Google Play Store and App Store, respectively.

This gives enthusiasts early access to upcoming features, and it also helps the company evaluate a new feature before offering it to the general public.
