These functionalities will be available on WhatsApp in 2022

In 2021, WhatsApp, a Meta-owned instant-messaging app, launched a plethora of new features and improvements. Users are eagerly awaiting the future additions. WhatsApp is developing a variety of new features to improve its consumers' chatting experience.

Some of these new capabilities are currently in the beta version of the app, while others are still in the works. According to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the app is working on a new function that will display a sender's profile pic in the notification when an iOS device receives a message.

The new WhatsApp features may help users improve their texting experience.

WhatsApp's expected features in 2022

1. Display profile photo in notifications

The instant-messaging programme is rumoured to be working on a new feature that will display the user's profile picture in iOS system notifications when a user receives a new message from friends or a group.

2. Hide your 'last seen' from specific contacts

WhatsApp is also testing a much-needed feature that would allow users to exclude particular contacts from their 'last seen' status. We'd like to point out that WhatsApp already has a function that allows you to hide a user's last seen from their contacts. However, one disadvantage of this feature is that users are unable to monitor the 'last seen' status of their contacts.

Thanks to the new last seen functionality, users can hide their last seen details from select contacts they don't want to view them, while still being able to check the 'last seen' status of everyone else in their contacts. The functionality, according to rumours, is already available in the app's beta version and will be released soon.

3. No time limit for deleting sent messages

Users can delete messages on WhatsApp for up to 4,096 seconds (68 minutes and 16 seconds) after they have been sent. According to current rumours, the meta-owned app is currently testing a new feature in a beta version that will permanently remove this restriction.

With the new feature, users will be able to delete sent messages from any point in the past. There is no set date for when this feature will be available.

4. WhatsApp Community feature

WhatsApp is rumoured to be working on a new community feature similar to Discord channels and groups. This is not to be confused with the existing WhatsApp groups feature. Group admins will have more control over the app's many functionalities with this new feature. Within a community, administrators can create up to ten groups and deliver messages to all of them at once. From start to finish, the community chats will be encrypted. It's conceivable that the feature will be available shortly.

5. WhatsApp logout

According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new option called logout to replace the 'Delete Account' button. Users will be able to log out of their WhatsApp accounts from their devices, similar to how they can check out of Facebook and other social media apps. With the new logout option, users may be able to access their accounts on multiple devices at the same time.

The capability was uncovered very recently in WhatsApp's latest beta version. In the near future, both iOS and Android users should be able to use the WhatsApp logout feature.

6. Instagram Reels on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users view Instagram Reels directly from the messaging app. This is part of WhatsApp's desire, according to reports, to interface with other Facebook-owned apps.

7. Read later

WhatsApp may update the Archived Chats feature in the near future, allowing you to read them later. Once a chat has been moved to the read later section, users will not receive notifications for messages received from it. A 'vacation mode,' which ensures that'read later' chats perform identically to archived chats in the current stable version, will be included in the feature. Users can change settings using an edit button. Users of WhatsApp can unarchive many conversations at once.

8. WhatsApp Insurance

WhatsApp users in India will soon be able to buy insurance over the service. The instant-messaging app wants to offer health insurance and micro-pension products on its messaging platform in India through collaborations with regulated financial services organisations. SBI General sachet-health insurance and HDFC Pension products would be the first products to be promoted on WhatsApp.

9. Message reactions

WhatsApp users will soon be able to answer to messages using photos, just like on Instagram and Facebook. According to WABetaInfo, a sneak view of the feature has been discovered. Known as meesage reaction, the function allows users to respond to a message with a total of six emojis.

Message reactions are available in both solo and group chat threads. Users can also enable or disable message reaction notifications using the 'Reaction Alerts' option.

10. Edit receipts while sharing media

Users will soon be able to select new recipients before sharing anything on WhatsApp.
