Tata has announced an ambitious plan to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country.

Announced at the ongoing Auto Expo in the national capital region, the plan envisages setting up 25,000 EV charging points across the length and breadth of the country over the next five years.

Titled K2K, standing for Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the ambitious project is being implemented by group company Tata Power.

The company has already kicked it off the pan-national project to support the faster adoption of e-mobility amongst the masses, boasting of an extensive charging network in Delhi, besides having a presence in Mumbai, Goa, Surat, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru, beside other places.

Tata Power already has a presence on some of the busiest interstate and national highways, with a focus on tourist spots like Coonnoor, Goa, Tirupati, as well as city connections like Delhi-Agra, Mumbai-Goa, Bengaluru-Chennai etc.

The network is expected to cover more than 450 cities across the country.

Tata says the venture is in line with the government’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan, which aims to develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure using the latest technological platform along with easy access to charging points for electric vehicles.

The company has also set up a state-of-the-art Network Operations Centre in Mumbai for real time management of the charging infrastructure.
