New Update

Google seems to be gearing up to open up the Play Store to real-money gambling like Rummy Circle and Dream 11.

The company recently announced in a blog post that the official Android app store will include more real money gambling apps like gaming apps that allow you to bet on real money that are “not covered by an existing licensing framework” starting June this year.

While the existing safety policies remain effective, it looks like Google went ahead with the decision after popular Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports apps received positive feedback during early pilot tests in India and Mexico.

The tech giant also extended the grace period for pilot apps to remain on the Play Store to June 30, which is when the new policy will come into effect.

Google said it will also bring real money gambling apps to more regions in the future while adhering to the country’s gambling policies and opt for a service fee model for subscriptions and in-app purchases.

However, the tech giant is yet to reveal details of how much it will charge for each transaction.

In India, gambling applications like Rummy Circle and Dream 11 that are based on skill are legal. While some states like Sikkim, Kerala and Nagaland heavily regulate gambling apps, some states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and others have banned such apps.

However, this does not mean the Play Store will be flooded with real money gambling apps.

Google’s current policy requires developers to go through a vigorous application process that requires them to obtain a valid license to run a gambling operation in the country or state they want to launch the app.
