New Update

Aadhaar rules have been simplified to enable those with not enough supporting documents to get their card updated, say for an address change, through an OTP-based consent process from whom the government has titled ‘head of the family’ (HoF).

Any resident above the age of 18 can be this ‘head of the family’ and can share his/her address with relatives through the process.

“The HoF-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great help to relatives like children, spouse, parents etc, who don’t have supporting documents in their own name to update address through Aadhaar,” said a government statement released Tuesday afternoon.

While proof of relationship to the HoF, like ration card or mark sheet or marriage certificate is not available, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) now provides an option to submit a self-declaration by the HoF in a prescribed format.

With people moving cities and towns due to various reasons within the country, such a facility will be beneficial for millions of people, according to the government.

This option will be in addition to the existing address update facility using any valid Proof of Address document prescribed by UIDAI.

The option to attest for a relative will now be available on the My Aadhaar portal at the cost of Rs 50.

The resident wanting to do this can enter the Aadhaar number of the HoF, which will be validated.

Once that number is validated, the resident will be required to upload a proof of relationship document (or a self-declaration from the HoF).

Once all this is done, the HoF is alerted through an SMS and will have 30 days after receiving the notification to successfully approve the request.
