TAMP EXHIBITION AND MY STAMP DRIVE at INS VALSUR

With the objective of promoting the hobby of collection of postage stamps, stationery, covers among the younger generation, a ‘Stamp exhibition and My Stamp Drive’ was conducted at INS Valsura the premier Electrical training establishment of the Indian Navy. The Stamp exhibition was inaugurated by Rear Admiral GK Harish, VSM, DGND (SSG).

The exhibition comprised of 40,000 stamps from India and 29 different countries. Some vintage and exquisite stamps released by Indian Postal service from 1891 were part of the collection by Ashok D Pandya, an avid philatelist from Jamnagar. Large number of Officers, Sailors, Defence civilians and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, visited the exhibition and displayed keen interest in the collection.

In addition to the exhibition, a ‘My Stamp Drive’ was also conducted under the aegis of Philately Bureau, Jamnagar Head Post Office. Under this program, each Valsurian could get a thumb nail image of choice printed on a template sheet of postage stamp. The template sheet of Indian Armed Forces was the natural choice for most of the personnel to make ‘My Stamp’.

During an impressive ceremony, the first ‘My Stamp’ printed on Indian Navy template was handed over by TN Malek, Superintendent of Post Offices (SPO), Jamnagar to Commodore C Raghuram, VSM, Commanding Officer, INS Valsura. TN Malek, SPO, Jamnagar and philatelist Ashok D Pandya were also felicitated for their proactive and positive support in conduct of both the events. Over 300 Valsurians printed their personalised sheet of postage stamps through ‘My Stamp Drive’.
