In another event as a part of ‘National Nutrition Week' celebrations, The Department of Foods & Nutrition & Foods Nutrition Alumni Association, Faculty of Family & Community Sciences, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda along with Indian Dietetic Association, Vadodara Club and Nutrition Society of India (Vadodara Chapter) organised a Symposium titled 'Entrepreneurship for Nutritionists and Dieticians' which was conducted by Nutrition Entrepreneurship Program (NEP).

A time has come when we all need to be job creators and providers rather than job seekers. There are few entrepreneurs in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. The team of Tehzeeb Lalani and Dr Vishal Marwah founded Nutrition Entrepreneurship Program (NEP)”to fill this gap. They together conduct an experiential learning program which teaches Nutritionists how to start and subsequently scale-up their nutrition practice.

The NEP started with a brief introduction by the Head of the Department Prof. Meenakshi Mehan on significance of National Nutrition Week celebration and its theme for the year 2017 - Optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health. Both the speakers Dr.Vishal Marwah (Founder and Physician at “Vishwas”) and Tehzeeb Lalani (Founder of NEP) shared their educational and career experiences.

Tehzeeb spoke about her professional challenges and presented views on building successful nutrition practice strategies. She also briefed the audience about her start-up journey as a nutritionist and progressing up as Entrepreneur called scale beyond scale. Tehzeeb emphasized on hard work, humility, learning from success and failure, making a sincere and constant effort, know all the aspects of the job and keep learning as key to being a successful entrepreneur.

Dr. Marwah shared his professional experiences. He presented his encouraging views on entrepreneurship and created an interactive platform of discussion with the audience on a topic entitled ‘Beyond Diet Plans’.

Both the speakers conveyed motivational messages for Nutritionist and upcoming Entrepreneurs. They also presented an act on nutrition counselling techniques and positive client approach.

The interesting and experiential learning part was a counselling session conducted by both the experts through which they demonstrated the basic essentials of behaviour change communication. They also touched upon how to handle difficult clients and situations.

The programme concluded with an interactive session on the same topic by enthusiastic participation of students and teachers.
