Headquarters South Western Air Command conducted Senior Medical and Dental Officers Conference with a theme of ‘Comprehensive Health Care Delivery at Station Medicare Centres and Hospitals: Issues, Solutions and The Way Forward’.

In a first, Air Marshal HS Arora Ati Vishist Seva Medal ADC, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command took the initiative and directed to conduct the conference ‘online’ exploiting the AFNET’s networking capability in IAF. The benefits derived by conducting conference in a virtual mode included large reduction in financial burden in hosting such conferences as it eliminates the need for physical travel and stay at the conference venue, apart from ensuring participation of all medical officers and staff at various bases in SWAC.

Based on the success of this conference, Online Virtual Video Conferences and Seminars are planned to be a norm in SWAC area of responsibility. A total of 225 personnel which included medical officers and para medical staff participated in this conference.

The conference aimed at enhancing awareness amongst medical and dental officers in the field of medicine and delivery of quality medicare to the patients. In his inaugural address, Air Marshal HS Arora highlighted the need to provide patient care after proper diagnosis, exploiting the contemporary medical facilities available in IAF today. He directed medical officers to empathize with the patients and provide them best possible care, both in terms of service as well as facilities.

During the conference eminent speakers from IAF and civil centers of excellence delivered talk on contemporary topics. Amongst the speakers was Air Vice Marshal Daljit Singh, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Medical) who shared his views on ‘Importance of being clinical, in the era of explosive use of diagnostic services’ while Dr Rachana Garg from National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research gave an insight into recent developments in cancer research. Dr Jayadeepa S from Image Core Lab, Bengaluru enlightened the audience on usage of Artificial Intelligence in the field of medicine.
