On Thursday
morning that the district administration in Agra has ordered that mobile
internet and broadband services would remain suspended until 6pm on Friday.
Internet
services across Uttar Pradesh have been subjected to disruption over the past
week after violent protests erupted against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
On Wednesday
night, an official order of the Mathura district administration was circulated
on social media that claimed internet services would remain suspended until 6pm
on Friday.
However,
Mathura district magistrate Sarvagya Ram Mishra told sources that a decision on
suspension of services would be taken only on Thursday.
Mishra said
the situation in Mathura has been normal but preventing disorder would be a
“top priority” for the administration.
Official
sources, however, told that several districts, including Mathura, could suspend
internet services ahead of Friday as a preventive measure in view of violent
protests against the Citizenship Act.
Protests
against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act had broken out in several districts of
Uttar Pradesh last week, leaving at least 17 people dead and moveable and
immoveable assets damaged.
