Success of Government’s ‘Nal Thi Jal’ Resolution under Jal Jeevan Mission in Gujarat

100% of households in far away Sandha village of Shinor have access to clean water through tap

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Government of Gujarat, excellent work has been done by the Government to provide water supply to the villagers in connection with the World Water Day celebrated on March 22. Sandha, a far away village in Shinor taluka in Vadodara district, is a successful example of the government’s ‘water from tap’ concept of every household.

Sandha village was awarded the ‘Nirmal’ village by the then President Abdul Kalam with the President’s Award in 2010 and was declared a healthy and clean village by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2012.

Sarpanch of Sandha village Sujata Patel stated that 100% of the houses in this village get clean water through tap. Earlier the women had to go far to fetch water but now every house has a clean water tap.

According to the details given by Sandeep Patel, a resident of Sandha village, earlier 132 houses had tap connections which has now increased to 186 houses. Earlier, there was a water tank of 20,000 liters which has now been increased to 60,000 liters. WASMO has provided taps in every house at a cost of Rs 11 lakh and with a population of Rs 110,000. The water supply department has also made arrangements for pipeline, valve system and rain water storage in the village.

The government’s plan is not limited to home as clean water is also provided in Sandha village school and Anganwadi under this scheme. As well as two wells have been constructed in the village for drinking water for the cattle which are now filled with water.

‘Water is life’ is not just a sentence but a reality and life without water is impossible. That is why in order to provide clean water to every household in the state, the government has given an invaluable gift of ‘water from tap’ to many households under this scheme.

Vadodara district has connected more than 3 lakh households in rural areas with the Prime Minister-inspired tap water scheme. Now, by providing tap connection to the remaining 3 thousand households, the district has come very close to 100 percent successful achievement.
