India has achieved 34 medals- eight gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze at the Asian Games 2023 so far in Hangzhou, China. The country currently stands at the 4th position on the scoreboard.
Off to a good start, India’s ace shooters, Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol secured the silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team final. The pair played against China’s Zhang Bowen and Jiang Ranxin who won by two points after six rounds of a white knuckler match.
In Men’s Long Jump, Indian athletes Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin showed remarkable performance in Group A and Group B matches respectively.
In athletics, both Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson performed admirably and have qualified for the finals in 1500m race. Saroj gave tough competition to reigning Asian champion, Saudi Arabia’s Raed Khairallah E. While Johnson came fifth, clocking in 3 minutes and 56 seconds, in his heat.
The prevailing Indian’s women’s Heptathlon champion, Swapna Barman, failed to clear the height of 1.73m in the high jump event today.
She received a score of 855 points andclaimed the 4th position. It remains to be seen how this setback will impact Barman’s overall score at the event.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Mirabai Chanu, will start with her campaign in the women’s 49kg weightlifting. She has high expectations riding on her. In a closely watched match, India and Pakistan will face off each other in Preliminary Men’s Hockey later today. The Sunil Chhetri led team is hopeful of adding another win to its kitty.
