In US Open Tennis, veteran Danish player Caroline Wozniacki cruised to the next round of women’s Singles defeating Petra Kvitová of Czechia. 

Earlier, world No. 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland also advanced to the third round defeating Australia’s Daria Saville 6-3, 6-4. 

In another match, Coco Gauff of USA entered the next round defeating Russia's Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 6-2. World No. 4 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan reached the next round after walkover from Australia's Ajla Tomljanović.

In men's singles, world No. 5 and one of the finalists from last year, Norway's Casper Ruud crashed out of the tournament. 

He lost to China's Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. Earlier, second seed and three-time winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 to enter the third round of the tournament.

Frances Tiafoe of USA also cruised to the next round defeating Sebastian Ofner of Austria. Taylor Fritz was another USA player who strengthened the country's hopes as he advanced to Round 3 defeating Juan Pablo Varillas of Peru.

However, Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas bowed out of the tournament after loosing to Dominic Stephan Stricker of Switzerland. He was another big name to crash out of the tournament on day 3.

Meanwhile, India's Rohan Bopanna and his Austaralian partner Matthew Ebden sailed into the second round of the men's doubles category.

They beat Australian pair of Aleksander Vukic and Christopher O'Connell 6-4, 6-2. Defending champion Bitish-American pair of Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram also progressed to the next round defeating Italian pair of Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli.

In women's doubles, defending champion Czech pair of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková advanced to the next round defeating Japanese-American duo of Makoto Ninomiya and Sabrina Santamaria.

American pair of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula also entered the second round.
