Lakshya finished with the bronze medal. He became the first Indian male shuttler to secure a medal in his maiden world meet appearance as he made his way to the last-four round of the prestigious event.

In the other semi-finals, Loh Kean Yew, who is ranked 22 in the world, survived a stiff challenge from Danish Anders Antonsen to set up a final date with Srikanth.

India are also assured of at least a silver medal besides winning a bronze.

This is the first time that India will have two medals in the men's singles in the same edition of the Badminton World championships.

Before this, India got two bronze medals in the Men's singles at the badminton world championships with Prakash Padukone in 1983 and B Sai Praneeth in 2019.
