SHOPPING ON WHEELS - A NEW CONCEPT BY WESTERN RAILWAY

Introduced in 16 Mail and Express trains.

With an aim to make the passengers travel more entertaining and memorable, a new concept of shopping on board will be introduced in Western Railways 16 Mail and Express trains. M/s HBN Network Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded the contract to carry out the work at a contract value of Rs 3.66 crore for a period of 5 years. There will be two sales persons with a shopping cart of dimension 1 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft maximum size. These sales persons will be in uniform having the Company ID carrying Credit and Debit card machines.

The licensee will be selling the FMCG goods such as beauty, home and kitchen appliances and other fitness items to passengers in train. The licensee will not be allowed to sell any type of eatables, tobacco, cigarettes, gutkha or items which are prohibited in Railways or in the State.

Catalogues will be distributed to passengers for browsing and placing a demand. The sales person will sell the product only during specific time slot from 8 am to 9 pm so that it does not cause inconvenience to passengers. It will also be ensured that the salesmen do not resort to loud verbal promotional activities like use of mike or shouting in coach. They will not disturb passenger in any way or force passenger for purchasing their product.

Out of the 16 mail/express trains, allotment of trains will be done in 8 phases with 2 trains per phase per quarter. The license fees will be paid on quarterly basis. This initiative of WR will get the earning registers ringing.
