Chosen only one from Gujarat for CBSE Teachers Award

The CBSE Teachers Awards for Teachers Day 2019 has chosen teacher Sapna Iyer from the Navrachana School, Sama, Vadodara, for its most prestigious national award this Teachers Day.

She is the only teacher from Gujarat selected for the same this year. Amongst the 48 Teachers announced to receive the award from across the country, she will receive a Certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

A Mathematics teacher at the Navrachana School, she is highly qualified with triple Masters degrees including an M.Ed as well as a UGC NET qualification. Adept at the use of technology in schooling, she is also a Microsoft Innovation Educator Expert (MIEE). She stands out for her creative methods of teaching Mathematics, creating a life-long love for this subject amongst her students and cultivating a genuine interest in it even amonst those who may be challenged with numbers.

The CBSE institited this Award under the aegis of the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD) to publicly recognise the contribution of meritorious teachers and principals of Schools affiliated with CBSE, especially on Teachers Day.

Almost a decade back Rekha Mishra, the then teacher in Navrachana School, Sama, was also conferred with this Award. She went on to establish and nurture the Navrchana Vidyani Vidyalaya and is now retired, but continues to be a mentor to the Eklavya School, Vejalpur, run by the Department of Tribal Education, Gandhinagar, and academically managed by the Navrachana Eduaction Society.
