Sandal wood theft reported from inside Sayajibaug zoo in Vadodara

Vadodara's popular Sayajibaug zoo is once again in news for wrong reasons as Sandal tree theft was reported late last night on Friday. The thieves entered the premises from through the river and cut down the tree with the help of saw among the presence of security.

As per the details the Sandal tree theft was reported late last night on Friday from the Sayajibaug zoo by the authorities. As per the zoo curator Pratyush Patankar the incident happened just behind the tiger enclosure where the thieves cut around 3 foot size of the tree. The more alarming was that none of the security personnel was present there when the incident happens.

"The incident happened in the midnight where the thieves might entered through the nearby river and cut the tree with the help of Saw. Its a serious security lapse as no security personnel was present there as per their routine round up of duty inside the garden. A FIR is registered regarding the matter and action will also be taken against the security and the agency," said Patankar.

Recently incident of stray dogs killing black bucks was also reported from inside the zoo and now the Sandal wood theft from inside the garden put serious question mark on the security. Speaking on that zoo curator said CCTV cameras are there and as the zoo is going through redevelopment more cameras will be installed later. The incident was reported to the Municipal Commissioner and serious action is taken against the security agency.
