SaMvitti foundation aims to empower women through literature

SaMvitti Foundation a initiative to empower the women through literature and literary arts is going to start from Vadodara. The foundation has been initiated by Dr. Darshini Dadawala, Gujarati Poet and Literary Critic, since October 2015. Driven by the mission to empower and transform women in emotional, intellectual and cultural domains, the SaMvitti Foundation aims at creating a supportive environment and opportunities for women to connect with literature in all possible ways.

The Foundation aims at unlocking the creative potential of women through education and capacity-building activities and contributing towards a holistic understanding of different identities of women and their inter-relationships with society. The Foundation’s scope shall gradually cover and include all Indian languages.

Women in India as well as in all parts of the world have made significant contribution to different forms of literature. Empowering women in literary and cultural fields is of great importance – as important, if not more, as their empowerment in family, socio-economic and political domains. Such empowerment of women in literary and cultural fields has not been adequately addressed by voluntary organizations that are active for women’s causes or for advancement of literature in our country.The SaMvitti Foundation shall attempt to attend to this need through a variety of activities that build the motivation and capacities of women to read, write, translate and adapt literature. The Foundation shall also promote, disseminate and document women’s literature as well as arts related with it through various media and activities. It hopes to make a subtle but meaningful difference in the lives of women through the means of literature and arts.

The organization has the formal presence of the eminent scholars and intellectuals like Lord. Prof. Bhikhu Parekh, Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, Prof. Ganesh devy, Prof. Yogesh Singh and many others. Apart from them, 26 distinguished individuals from various walks of life have also extended their warm support to the Foundation in a formal way.

The foundation is probably one of its kind in the state to specially empower the women to enter in the main stream of literarture. The foundation will help them through workshops and seminars and also publish their journals. The foundation also plan to reach out to the local groups to reach to the tribal areas.

The launch event ‘Pallavita’ of the foundation is going to happen on 9^th April 2017 amidst the dignitaries Governer O.P. Kohli and others.
