Mother and twins both happy and healthy at home post one month of delivery

In the time of Corona crisis, the government SSG Hospital’s genuine treatment and commitment to public health is unmatched. Another bright chapter was added to the Corona treatment success stories of this hospital on 18th September when a positive patient Shilpa gave birth safely in the special maternity unit for Corona positive pregnant women. She gave birth to twins in the hospital.

The mother was diagnosed with Corona at the last minute, the twins were in her womb and she was pregnant after a long period of 11 years. Furthermore her age is more than safer and normal delivery and her family was stressful for their well being.

Thus, there were many challenges to her delivery and test of the skills for the doctors and nursing staff working in the Corona unit of SSG’s Rukmani Chainani maternity home. Successfully overcoming all these challenges, believing in their own knowledge and God’s help, the medical team of this government set-up managed to give Shilpa a safe delivery through surgery. After nearly one month of delivery the twin sons and mother are healthy and fit and father Navneet Talati and his entire family are happy.

The Talati family’s trust in the government Sayaji Hospital and its doctors and nursing staff has paid off in the wake of the Corona crisis. The hospital family is also happy.

Giving detailed information about this incident, Dr. O.B. Belim, Administrative Nodal Officer, Corona Treatment Department said, the Talati family of Chhani area is financially good. It was a long time after the birth of the first child in the family and the couple was trying for another child. They even tried hard for a test tube baby but did not succeed.

The family rejoiced when Shilpaben received a natural pregnancy earlier this year. The mother and fetus were taken care of in a private hospital with regular check-ups, sonography, blood reports. Maternity was expected in mid-September.

In such cases, doctors resort to surgical delivery instead of taking the risk of natural labor pains and childbirth for the safety of the mother and the fetus.

Accordingly, on September 18, the doctor admitted her to a private hospital with the intention of performing a caesarean section. However the time turned out to be shocking for the family as according to Corona guideline, she was tested before the operation and reports comes out as positive. It led to a confusion as the hospital was not accredited for Corona positive patients delivery. That is why she needed to be shifted to a recognized hospital immediately.

The family felt the option of a government-run Sayaji Hospital was safe at this time, and brought Shilpa to the hospital’s Corona OPD where her Corona test came positive.

It is pertinent to note here that at the onset of the corona crisis, two pregnant women from a family in Vadodara tested positive. Later a special gynecological unit was started at Sayaji Hospital under the corona treatment facility. After that, Dr. Vinod Rao, Officer on Special Duty and Education Secretary, also started it in the corona treatment facility of Gotri Hospital as part of precaution. Thus, the government health system has the facility of treatment and safe delivery of corona positive pregnant women in two hospitals.

During this time the mother also started having labor pains. So the head of Corona’s gynecology unit, Dr. Gokhale immediately decided to go ahead with the delivery by surgery on a pregnant woman. With help of senior sister Bhanumati and junior doctors they conduct a safe delivery and give a new lease of life to the twin children. Luckily both sons were corona negative and the mother also had corona without symptoms.

As per the rules, Corona positive mother was kept in the Covid ward and the newborn sons were kept in a separate room and the treatment was continued under medical supervision. Newborns received both nectar-equivalent breast milk and love with the mother securing a periodic breastfeeding facility in a separate safe room. After vigilance for seven to eight days the hospital bid farewell to mother and the infants. The family was overwhelmed with gratitude and the success of the doctors and staff.

Children’s birthdays are usually celebrated once a year. But it would not be a surprise if the Talati family celebrates the one month of the birth of their two sons, whom they received as a gift from God in the Corona crisis and at the end of their long wait. “The treatment facilities and hard work of the staff of Sayaji Hospital have kept our family safe and enhanced in times of crisis,” says the Talati couple
