Rajkot Smart City has been awarded the IGBC Green Cities – Platinum rating for the green initiatives taken up for design and implementation. This is the first smart city in India to achieve the IGBC Green Cities rating.

The Indian Green Building council appreciates and acknowledges the excellent leadership of Udit Agarwal, Chairman, Rajkot Smart City Development Limited and Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot Municipal Corporation.

Indian Green Building Council recognizes several initiatives taken, which include enhancing city’s resilience to earth quake, cyclone, drought & flood, energy efficiency, water management, waste management, 100% LED lamps for street lighting, extensive utilization of roof top solar PVs, treatment of 100% of waste water generated from the city and waste recycling.

V Suresh, National Chairman, IGBC said that Rajkot Smart City has set an excellent example to the country in going green. He added “IGBC’s Green Cities Rating has enabled the Rajkot Smart City to apply green concepts, technologies and planning principles and improve the overall quality of life’. He also appreciated the creative efforts of INI Design Studio, Consulting firm, for hand- holding RSCDL & RMC authorities to achieve the coveted IGBC Platinum award.

IGBC with the support of all the stakeholders is spearheading the 21st century green building movement in India. As on date, over 5,900 green building projects, amounting to over 7.17 billion sq.ft of green building footprint are adopting IGBC green standards for buildings and built-environment. IGBC aspires to facilitate 10 billion sq.ft of green building footprint by 2022 – the year that marks 75th year of India’s Independence.
