Continuing with the great ethos and honour of the Indian Army, it was decided by Brigadier SN Tiwari, Commander, Rajkot Group NCC to felicitate war widows (Veer Naris) present in the entire area of Rajkot group covering almost entire Saurashtra region on 15 Jan 2021 on the occasion of Army Day.

Out of 28 Veer Naris in the entire group area, 8 Veer Naris could physically remain present and were felicitated, while the teams from various battalions were dispatched to the native places of the remaining war widows. The recognition of war widows is henceforth going to be a regular process and all aid will be extended to them to live a dignified life.

In addition, the NCC cadets and the staff who displayed selfless courage and commitment to the core values and ethos of NCC during the initial days of COVID-19 pandemic when uncertainty had prevailed, had assisted the civil administration and local population under Exercise Yogdan launched by NCC, were felicitated for their dedication and perseverance towards the country and the society.

Nitin Petani, VC Saurashtra University and Smt Ramya Mohan, DC Rajkot were the Guests of Honour. Brigadier and Mrs SN Tiwari, Colonel and Mrs Sameer Bisht also graced the occasion. Veteran Colonel KD Singh and Veteran Captain Jaydeo Joshi were also present during this occasion.

The Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January as on this day, our country got its first Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General KM Cariappa in the year 1949. Before this, Indian Army had a Britisher as the COAS. This was a historic occasion and since then it is being celebrated with full glory and honour every year.
